18th century Italian mecca gilded base with a coordinating iridescent abalone shell and natural-forming baroque pearls. 

The shell and base are joined together and decorated with pearls and abalone shell pieces. The hand-carved base originally came from a historical church in Italy and the back facing of the base is painted.
