This unique type of fossilized clamshell can be up to 1.5 to 2 million years old. This clamshell specifically contains warm tan hues of calcite crystals, formed when mineral-rich groundwater permeates the shells and deposits crystalline calcite in the hollow interiors. The striking contrast between the rough, weathered shell and the crystal interior makes them highly sought after by collectors and dynamic representations of one of natures most interesting forms of preservation.
