18th century Italian Station of the Cross wood fragment with Vanadinite. The hand-carved molding fragment has been adorned with raw Vanadinite crystals. This piece is part of a collection of Stations of the Cross from a church in Tuscany.
Stations of the Cross or the "Way of the Cross" is a fourteen step series of images and devotions that represent the biblical telling of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Beginning with the first condemnation to the time of Jesus' burial, these images line the great halls and are typically framed with beautiful hand-carved moldings such as this one.
This piece represents the first station during Christ's journey to the crucifixion at Calvary.
*An additional piece of Vanadinite is gifted with each piece.
