18th century Italian hand-carved gold leaf angel with fossil agate coral wings and mounted on natural aragonite. The antique angel was once part of a heavenly, angelic depiction in a historic church in Tuscany. Beginning as one piece, the agate coral has been cut and polished to become the wings. The angel holds in its hands a string of coordinating cross-shaped baroque pearls and floats on a naturally formed aragonite mineral perfectly emulating a cloud.
Fossil agate coral is Florida's state stone and is known for its unique formation that can take place over 20 million years. It's a natural gemstone that is created when prehistoric coral is gradually replaced with agate. The aragonite is from Morocco and can appear in many different formations.
Together, the angel and natural elements create a figurative, contemporary work of historic significance. The final photo reflects a representation of the context in which these angels are showcased.
