Pair of 18th century Italian mecca carved figurative candleholders on rutile in a crystal quartz matrix. The pair originally come from a historic church in Italy. They are thought to have been part of a group of other figurative candleholders that depicted the twelve diciples. Rutilated quartz is a rare type of quartz that contains inclusions of rutile which look like gold needles intersecting through the crystal quartz. They are mounted on the rutilated quartz to create a historical, sculptural pair.
