17th century Italian gold leaf fragment with pyrophyllite in matrix with baroque pearls.

This fragment was originally a candlestick from a church in Italy. The pyrophyllite is mounted and coordinates with part of the red bole paint of the gold leaf. The pyrophyllite is famously from North Carolina and the baroque pearls are applied to mimic the striated fans of the mineral.

Together, the elements create a contemporary, yet historically significant work of organic and old.
