Fishtail selenite is made up twin crystals of optical selenite that have grown together in the shape of angel wings or "fishtails." This crystalline form of selenite gypsum is comprised of striations that look like optical light fibers. Unusual in size, these specimens have been mined by hand in Mexico. The shapes resemble different kinds of fish and the kyanite and baroque pearls are applied to create details like eyes and mouths on the pieces.
These figurative minerals create a group of organic modern sculptural works.
