Pyrite suns with fossil fern in matrix.

Found 300 feet deep in coal mines in a narrow seam of shale lying on top of the coal vein. Research by the Smithsonian has proven them to be pyrite and iron sulphide, aged 350 million years old, and a theory of origin is they are a fossil replacement.

Size: 9" high x 7" wide x 1" deep
