Sculptural "tree" with an 18th century Italian gold leaf helmet. The helmet is hung on a type of desert wood and is mounted on a calcite and mica mineral on a gold leaf wood base. The wood base has been carved to emulate the shape of the mineral.
The "tree" is a type of desert wood, possibly iron desert wood. It appears to have "grown out" of the calcite and mica base. The helmet hangs on one of the tree branches like a soldier lost his helmet at battle.
The elements create a contemporary yet figurative work of old and new.
