Petrified wood are fossilized remains of terrestrial vegetation, the result of trees having completely transformed to stone through the process of permineralization, a thousand year process. All organic materials have been replaced with minerals, such as quartz, while retaining the original stem tissue. Unlike other fossils that are usually compressions, petrified wood is a three-dimensional depiction of the original organic material. Exotic minerals allow the colors to form in each specimen that has been polished by hand. With a tangerine crystal quartz cluster on a lucite base.
