18th-century Italian candlestick decorated with fossil agate coral on an agate base. The hand-carved 18th century Italian candlestick originally comes from a church in Florence. This particular fragment candlestick was also one found and saved in the infamous 'Florence Flood' of 1966. This is what caused the piece to look more distressed. The fossil agate coral and agate base coordinate with the candlestick in color and form.

Fossil agate coral is also Florida's state stone and is known for its unique formation that can take place over 20 million years. It's a natural gemstone that is created when prehistoric coral is gradually replaced with agate. The Italian candlestick, fossil agate coral, and agate base are put together in a sculptural form - creating a piece that appears to have evolved together over time. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
