Sculptural 18th century Italian figure of Christ on brown fossil coral adorned with smoky quartz crystals and mounted on a polished agate base. The figure of Christ was originally part of a crucifix from a church in Tuscany.
The smoky quartz replaces the arms on the figure of Christ as the original arms had broken off due to age and distress. Together the elements create a figurative, contemporary work of historic significance.
This piece is being exhibited with Museo Casa di Dante for an exhibition titled, Il Coraggio e la Paura. The exhibition is hosted by the Society of Fine Arts - Artists' Circle “Dante's House.” In English the title translates to “Courage and Fear.” The collection is presented at Museo Casa di Dante, a museum that honors the history and life of Dante Alighieri. It was formerly the famous Italian poet’s home and is now committed to sharing Dante’s literary work and important works of art.
