18th century Italian wood chalice decorated with calcite crystals in sphalerite on a lucite base. The hand-carved and painted chalice is from a church in Liguria, Italy. The calcite crystals formation comes from Elmwood Mine, Tennessee.
It is an example of the world's finest crystallized calcite. With the unusual formation of sphalerite, it is unequaled by those from any other part of the world (referenced from the "American Mineral Treasure" book, pg. 337).
