Sculptural 18th century Italian crucifix mounted on emerald in matrix on a reflective mica base.
The crucifix artifact is originally hand carved wood with silver leaf from a church in Tuscany and rests on emerald in matrix with applied highlights of crushed mica. Carved at the top of the crucifix is the latin phrase translated to "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews". The base of the cross is uniquely branded with the catholic emblem of the Order of Carmel. Born and developed in the 12th and 13th century, the Order of Carmel represented a diverse religious group dedicated to a life of service and simplicity in their faith. The figure of Christ is hand painted and coordinates perfectly with the natural elements. The piece is supported with a base of reflective sheet of mica.
Combined with the precious minerals, the artifact becomes a sculptural work of historic and organic significance.
