18th century Italian gilded angel (putto) mounted with a calcite crystal formation with sphalerite. 

The gilded and hand-carved angel head is originally from a historical church in Italy. The calcite crystal formation comes from Elmwood Mine, Tennessee which is known for the world's finest crystallized calcite. With the unusual formation of sphalerite, it is unequaled by those from any other part of the world (referenced from the "American Mineral Treasure" book, pg. 337). The weight of the crystal is 2.5 lbs. It is a museum specimen along with the historical angel artifact. 

The elements are put together to create an organic and historic work of art.

*A hook is also attached to the back to be able to hang the piece on a wall or it can also be displayed with a lucite base upon request.
