18th century Italian hand-carved gold leaf angel with fossil shells and adorned with sparkling, crushed aquamarine and mounted on an aquamarine base. The hand-carved angel was once part of a heavenly, angelic depiction in a historic church in Tuscany. The angel artifact's missing arms and wings have been replaced with fossil shells that are aged with natural pigments to emulate the colors of the angel. It has been mounted on the natural forming aquamarine which coordinates with the distressed angel.
The Italian angel has been joined with the natural elements to create a sculptural work of organic and old - creating a piece that appears to have evolved together over time. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
