Pair of 18th century Italian hand-carved gold leaf angels mounted on amethyst and calcite in matrix. The hand-carved angels were once part of a heavenly, angelic depiction in a historic church in Tuscany.
The angels are placed onto the amethyst and calcite in matrix which is a very rare mineral combination and formation. The calcite formation coordinates with the gesso underlay of the angels. The pair of angels are holding heart-shaped baroque pearls.
The Italian angels have been put together with the natural elements to create a sculptural work of old and new - creating a historically and organically significant work of art.
