18th century Italian processional finial with polished agate coral on a coordinating agatized coral base.

The finial originally came from a church in Tuscany. Polished agate coral is encrusting the hand-carved finial, looking as though it organically grew from the piece. Agate coral is Florida's state stone and is known for its unique formation that can take place over 20 million years. It's a natural gemstone that is created when coral is gradually replaced with agate.

The Italian church finial and agatized coral are put together in a sculptural form - creating a piece that appears to have evolved together over time. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
