19th century Italian gold leaf putto mounted on aragonite with a chalcedony druzy heart. A Putto is a cherub figure frequently appearing in both mythological and religious paintings and sculpture, especially of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
This piece was once used as part of a decorative motif in angelic depictions in a historic Italian church. It is mounted on the aragonite which emulates a cloud.
Together, the putto and aragonite create a historically significant yet contemporary work of old and new.
