Pair of 17th century Italian candlesticks with Chesapecten shells and adorned with Herkimer diamonds and smoky quartz.
Herkimer diamonds are double-terminated quartz crystals famous for their diamond-like features and found only in New York. The quartz fill the inside of each barnacle that naturally formed onto the chesapecten shells. The chesapecten shells are found from the banks of the James River and are usually 3 to 8 million years old.
The elements create a pair of historically significant and contemporary pieces of old and new.
