17th century Italian fragment base with aquamarine in a crystal matrix and gold leaf shells. The fragment is originally from a church in Liguria. It is hand-carved and painted with green pigments and gold leaf. The shells are gold-leafed to match the original paint of the artifact. The aquamarine in matrix emulates the deep green of the fragment as well.
The Italian church artifact, aquamarine, and gold leaf shells are put together in a sculptural form - creating a piece that appears to have evolved together over time. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
