18th century Italian gold leaf fragment artifact decorated with tourmaline in crystal matrix and coordinating gold leaf shells on a pyrite matrix base. The 18th century fragment originally came from a church in Tuscany. It is hand-carved with leaf and flower motif details. The gold leaf shells mirror parts of the artifact. The gemmy green tourmaline crystal coordinates with the green painted berry and leaf foliage. This is decorated on both sides so it would be suitable to be placed in front of a mirror or mirrored background.
The Italian church artifact, tourmaline crystal in matrix, gold leaf shells, and pyrite base are put together in a sculptural form - creating a piece that appears to have evolved together over time. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
