18th century Italian candlestick with a calcite crystal and a natural forming baroque pearl. The candlestick is decorated with polished agatized coral pieces and sits on a coordinating agate base.
These calcite crystals are from Elmwood Mine, Tennessee which is known for producing some of the world’s finest crystallized calcite. These calcite crystals are unequaled by those from any other part of the world (featured in American Mineral Treasures, pg. 337). The Italian candlestick is originally from a church in Tuscany.
The Italian church candlestick artifact, calcite crystal, and baroque pearl, and agate are put together in a sculptural form - creating a piece that appears to have evolved together over time. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
