18th century Italian arrowhead decorated with fossil agate coral with a polished agatized coral base. The arrowhead fragment is hand-carved and originally came from a church in the Umbria region of Italy. The fossil agate coral emulates the plume on the carved arrow. Fossil agate coral is also Florida's state stone and is known for its unique formation that can take place over 20 million years. It's a natural gemstone that is created when coral is gradually replaced with agate.
The Italian church artifact and fossil agate coral are put together in a sculptural form - creating a piece that appears to have evolved together over time. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
