18th century Italian ribbon fragment with barite crystals and gold leaf shells on a matrix with double terminated golden barite crystals from Elk Creek in Meade, South Dakota. This is a rare form of barite that gets its rich honey color from both short and long UV during the metamorphic process. The fragment artifact is from a carved wood cornice molding that would have come off of an elaborate Italian mirror.
