18th-century Italian silver leaf crucifix with a gold leaf figure of Christ and sunrays on a massive calcite crystal with matrix base from Elmwood Mine, Tennessee.
It is an example of the world’s finest crystallized calcite. With the unusual formation of sphalerite, it is unequaled by those from any other part of the world (featured in American Mineral Treasures, pg. 337). The crucifix originally comes from a significant church in Liguria. The sacred piece has been preserved and mounted onto the calcite crystal to create a new modern work.
